How's Your Day Going?

Honestly, some days I feel like I live on a farm. Every morning after I get up I go out into the back yard with the dog and my bucket of oiled sunflower seeds and fill the bird feeders, sprinkle something on the ground for the squirrels (so they stay away from the feeders), refresh the bird bath, then throw the ball around for the dog and make sure she does her business.

Today, after I finished my "farm" chores and my husband left for work, I started the coffee, fed the dog and began to plan my day. Hey, a day with no commitments for a change!  I actually thought that maybe, just maybe, I could get something done. I was even willing to turn off the computer for awhile. The dog begged to go out again. I ran back inside to pour myself a cup of coffee and get my sweater. I swear, TWO minutes later, I poked my head out the window and saw that she was lying on her back, rolling in something on the grass.

When she came to the door ("Hi, Mom!")  I caught a whiff and Oh My Goodness. As soon as I let her in I regretted it. Whoa! I caught her before she ran past me, gathered her up and then tried to wipe her down with a soapy cloth but it didn't help. She smelled like a barnyard and now so did my whole house. All soaped up, she slipped away from me and ran to the sofa to dry herself off, with me screaming behind her. PUH-LEEZE! This is not happening. Not today. I just cleaned.

Let's see, what smells good today?

Spoiled city girl that I am, not wishing to get my hands even more dirty, I wrapped her up in an old towel, popped her in the car and drove to the groomer.  Please, please fit us in.

Goose Poop - I should have guessed. What dog doesn't love that scent? It could have been worse (skunk). "Oh, my, she IS a stinky girl today. Our regular bath won't get rid of the smell - do you want us to deodorize her too? There's an extra charge for that . . . ."  Of course there is.

I have to admit I was a little surprised. She's usually much more of a lady. I always thought she'd go for something slightly more floral than Goose Poop.

Don't let the smile fool you.

I HATE getting sidetracked by silly stuff like this. I've got a couple of hours until I have to pick up the sweet-smelling little girl and I still have to figure out how to get the goose poop off the sofa cushion and my jeans. Wonder if I can salvage my day after that? If I can, I thought maybe I'd clean my desk. Or, since writing is so therapeutic for me, maybe I'll just write a cute little story about it to ease my frustration. Better than opening that box of cookies in the pantry.

So, how's your day going??

Hope tomorrow will be better! I hate days like that. Good plans sometimes just doesn't happen, we've all been there.

Actually, yesterday was not a good day. We had planned to drive to the coast (Oregon) with our 5th wheel and camp for 4 nights. When we got to the campground we drove around looking for a site that we liked and when we found it, DH started to back in - except the truck wouldn't back up AT ALL! What to do! We ended up driving back home and arrived at 9:30 PM, unloaded the 5th wheel while parking it in front of the house. The place where it is stored requires it to be backed into the spot, so DH took it over there this morning on the chance that he would be able to get it in the parking spot. Then he will take the truck to the transmission shop! UGH! What next, right? It is always something! Oh, well, at least the truck would drive forward and we were able to make it home last night - I'm thankful for that.

Goose poop is soooo funny now though isn't it?? You never mentioned feeding geese... do they just wander into your yard? Glad the groomer could fix that! Have a great rest of your day now :) I am hand quilting today! Kathi

We have an Airedale, Treacle, and she loves to roll in fox mess and boy does that smell bad!!! I couldn't get her into her hairdresser so I had to haul her into the bath and then dry her with my hairdryer!!!!!! She had only just had a cut and bath as well so I was not pleased!!!!! Today has been better than yesterday!!!! Hugs, Susie x

Oh, my, Kathleen! I'm sorry for your smelly day, but you made mine. I had a good laugh at your goose poop smellin' pooch story. I didn't know goose poop was that smelly. We have a flock of Canadian geese that have taken up residence in our neighborhood, but they stay on the other side of the road near the lake. Now I'll know better than to walk over there for a closer look. I hope your couch comes clean and you salvage the rest of your day. :)

We just finished moving from 1 house to our "new" one and I still haven't found all my 'stuff" so needles to say no sewing yet. If you come to MT to help me I'll come back to ILL to help you lol. Yours would probably be alot easier. Good luck Kathy

Well, it's not goose poop (well, maybe it is LOL) but last Thursday I went to get a CT scan to see if my chemo treatments had done their job and I get called back in the afternoon that I had a perforated appendix.
Didn't have to have surgery since I had no fever or pain - just watch and wait - but wound up spending the night and next day in the hospital and got 2 transfusions to boot besides antibiotics. And the day had begun so innocently. BTW - cancer treatment worked, Praise God. AND... I feel good enough to get back to my quilting!

Sorry, hope your day is improving. I just wanted to let you know that I taught your pinwheel's to my little quilt guild last night. I copied your tutorial (including the link) and let them each make one (the fabric was already fused and cut). They had fun. I told them to check you out and see your little quilts. Thanks for the great idea.

Oh glory bee that is too funny. Very glad you have a local groomer who could fit you in. Bissell makes a portable machine for cleaning carpet/upholstery. I just used mine on the cream colored carpet Dolly likes to rest on after napping in the yard dirt. It's a must for pet owners.

We used to have a terrier and a cocker spaniel who just loved, LOVED fresh green cow pies. Oh they were so proud of themselves after rolling in that. More than once we thought that choking them would be easier than bathing them. But they got their baths and they weren't impressed with how they smelled so I guess we were even. That's how the story always went, until the next time! Grandma Rita

Oh you poor girl! Not a fun way to spend any day! I hope you have gotten the smell out of your couch and your clothes. I usually have kid disasters not pet ones. I hope tomorrow is better for you. K-

My day is so far very good. Getting things ready for a retreat this weekend. I have never been to this place where the retreat is being held so looking forward to seeing the setup for 32 quilters! Plus the gal planning this retreat is expecting her first baby so a surprise shower is planned for her! I think she will be totally surprised. Enjoy reading your blog........I am a new follower.

Oh dear, goose poop...still better than skunk....ask me how I know! There is no such thing as a "day planner" when you have kids or dogs. LOL Honestly, how could you stay mad at that adorable face.

It always happens when I just turn away for a second--and it happens so fast! I use Nature's Miracle for removing odors and stains from my 4-legged child.

She is ADORABLE Kathy. Worth the trouble!

My approach to each day always keeps in mind the old saying, "Remember that life is the stuff that happens to you while you're busy making other plans." That seems to cover everything that can happen, even goose poop. So how did the goose poop end up in your yard in the first place? Hoping that there are many better days ahead for you.

I think pets are a lot like little kids. They are just so darn cute even when they're bad.
