Another Christmas Patchwork Giveaway

I love Christmas project books. And now you have another chance to win a book from Martingale filled with all sorts of cute holiday projects. This one is Season's Greetings by Anni Downs of Hatched and Patched. It's a sweet little book filled with cozy patchwork, applique and embroidery with a delightful whimsical style.

Aren't these projects cute? I really love the colors and scrappy fabrics Anni uses in her projects.

I have a lot of fun making things for Christmas presents and I know some of you do too. Many of the projects in this book are simple and quick so they're perfect for gift giving. Too late for this year perhaps but there's always next. Projects include an Advent calendar, table top tree skirt, gift bags and a 12 days of Christmas stitchery.

To enter your name for a chance to win this book, just leave me a comment telling me about an unusual Christmas gift you received. Include your name and a way for me to reach you by e-mail. Good luck! The winner will be announced on Wednesday, Dec 21.

Hi Kathy! I've been trying to think of an unusual Christmas gift I've received. What I am sharing is an usual Christmas gift I guess, although it was a wonderful Christmas gift. I think it was three years ago that I received it. My husband Mark and myself, love antique shops. So happened we stopped in a local one to us and my husband came across some antique German stork scissors. They are in very good shape and Mark purchased those for me for Christmas that year! I love those little scissors and am happy to call them mine now:) Also love that little book your offering a give away on and how fabulous it would be to win! Thanks Kathy<3

I am having trouble thinking of an unusual gift. This year my grandsons who live out of state sent my husband and I a Christmas card they had made. These boys are ages 5, 3 and 1. The card contained tracings of their hands with stickers on them. The 3 year old had one sticker on his but the other 2 hands were covered. The unusual thing about this was that the envelope was addressed by the 5 year old to "Grandma and Grandpa" with our address--no additional name information. The Postal Service did a great job getting it to us. Merry Christmas!

When I was about eleven years old I received a very unusual gift from my favorite Aunt. It was play stockings, and garter belt with jingle bells! My aunt is now 85 and she recently sent me a picture of me modeling the gift....so funny!!! Thank you for a chance to win this darling book,

The most unusual gift I received was four years ago when a friend refinished my Uncles old sewing machine and gifted it to me. It is an old Singer portable machine with a wooden cover. My bachelor Uncle used it to mend his clothes. It still works and I use it occasionally when I do old time demonstrations at fairs. sandybessingpas@ yahoo.com

Oh, haha. When my husband and I were first married and pretty poor, he gave me a pair of rubber gloves! I needed them, but the funniest part was I asked for small, and he messed up and got me large instead. They were falling off my hands. Now, we've been married for 53 years and he does a lot better!

The most unusual, not to mention unexpected, Christmas gift that I can remember was one that I received as a child. One Christmas morning, I found a child-sized comb-back Windsor rocking chair under the tree. I thought that it was beautiful, and I spent many evenings rocking as I watched TV. When I outgrew it, my mother passed it along to a relative, but I truly wish that I still had that chair...perfect for displaying my little quilts! Thank you for another wonderful giveaway!

When we were first dating, my sweetheart gave me a little car vacuum. Unusual gift, to be sure, and I will be honest and say that it was not very well received. It was really a "hint" gift, from a guy who was raised to think that women are neat and was shocked at the messy condition of my car. We have sort of met in the middle after 30-some years, and he no longer gives me such pointed gifts.

Emily RP said...

Several years ago when our grandsons were small, they decided to make our Christmas gifts. One drew a picture of Snoopy flying an airplane and colored it with crayons. The other, who was younger, drew a picture using plain white paper and regular pencils. He thought out his gift and decided his picture needed a frame. He made it out of plumbing pipe and glued it to the back of the frame. We still have both pictures and they are displayed in our home.

Thank you for the opportunity of the winning one of these lovely books!

Take care.

When we were first married, we talked about what kind of holiday we would like to be able to go on. I said that I would love to have a log cabin by a lake. I knew this was likely never to happen, but the next Christmas my husband gave me a miniature log cabin that he had made himself. It sits on top of an old treadle machine cabinet and every Christmas my husband decorates it with mini lights and a mini Santa and reindeer. We never bought a real log cabin, but I love my mini cabin.

An unusual Christmas gift huh? My oh my, lets see how difficult we can make it LOL Love the book, it looks like I could do a few projects in it. I guess the only one I can think of is one I bought myself, wrapped up and gave to a friend and told her to give it to me for Christmas. Every single time I wanted to do something in the shop or weld something up I would have to search for the angle grinder. I would search the shop, I would search the machine shed (we ranch), look in the mr.'s truck, look in the garage, look in the mud room. and finally I would give up and ask him where he left it. His response was always the same..."I don't know, look in the shop, look in the machine shed, look in my truck, look in the garage" etc. etc. I would tell him I already looked all those places. I was plum sick and tired of looking for it, so I bought my own angle grinder, wrapped purple duct tape around the handle and the cord and my friend "gave" it to me for Christmas. He still has no clue that I spent perfectly good money on something we already had, but it has saved me countless aggravation because I never have to look for it again. I would love to win that book, and I know my mr. will not take it and leave it somewhere that I can't find it.

Now I didn't find this gift unusual but lots of my friends did. I asked for tires for my car. My sweetie got them for me. My friends found my sweetie unromantic. I thought him to be a Prince.

It's not truly unusual, but my grand daughter gave me an early gift of her artwork of a turtle laminated into a bookmark and I will cherish it with each page I read.

Such cute projects. Let's see.... One unusual gift from my mother was a box filled with things she found at rummages throughout the year. Each of my sisters also received a box with items unique to them. While unusual it was also special because our mom really thought about each of us and what we like.

What a wonderful book! Thanks for sharing Kathleen! My most unusual gift was a toaster oven. I never asked for one, but my husband was so proud of his purchase. He told me he had taken our youngest son, Jordan shopping. Jordan convinced him that I definitely wanted a toaster oven. Jordan sat there grinning because he was the one who wanted the toaster oven to cook his favorite snack...pizza rolls! We still laugh about this every Christmas!

The ONLY thing I can think of that was unusual (tho it really wasn't considering the circumstances) was a box of fireplace logs. It was a 'chinese' gift exchange amongst bunco friends and it was unusual for me because I had a set of gas logs and wouldn't have been able to use them. The book looks fantastic--thanks for the giveaway!

I can't think of any unusual Christmas gifts but I do remember the year that I found out the truth about Santa. Thank you for the opportunity to win this wonderful book!

Such a cute looking book and the projects would be so fun! One of the most unusual Christmas gift I ever received was the exact same album that I owned when I was a young teenage girl. I always thought I had an authentic Beach boys album until one of my older brothers told me it was really just the 'surf siders singing the Beach boys song book'. It was as though they burst my bubble. I frequently told my kids the story. Lo and behold my daughter was able to find that exact album at an estate sale and gave it to me as a gift. While I do not have a phonograph to listen to it anymore I still value her gift very much. One day I will get to listen to it again…

Thank you for the chance to win.Suffice to say my lack of humour one Christmas morning when I opened the gifts from my husband. It was a book on how to tie nautical knots, a toaster for the oven on our trailer sailer and last but not least a stuff bag which holds flares and safety gear for our trailer sailor.Obviously my husband bought the gifts for himself grin in the guise of gifts for me

My oddest Christmas gift I've received was from my husband. He gave me a propane tank cover. For real....I was completely shocked. He was excited. He needed one for our trailer. The next holiday, my birthday, he gave me a log carrier. I didn't like this trend. So on his birthday and the next Christmas, he first received a dress I liked, then, a clay tablet for bread baking. Still have both items. He has managed to control himself ever since. :)

When I was a little girl, I attended a private elementary school because my mother was the school nurse. Not surprisingly, many of my classmates were quite well-to-do, and some went to a special shop every Friday with their maids to buy the latest doll clothes. That Christmas I heard my mother's sewing machine until late every night, and she would not tell me what she was working on. On Christmas morning, I opened a huge hatbox filled with the most beautiful doll clothes -- for the tiny 8 inch doll that we all had at the time - with a little pleated plaid skirt and a matching jacket, among other things. Wonderful!

Hi, one wonderful but unusual Christmasgift I got by my friend. She used leftover scraps (and we are talking small scraps - nothing bigger than 2 x 2" !) to stuff the package she send by post to me. Of course this wasn't her real gift to me, but I completely forgot was that was. She knows that I'm crazy after These small scraps and I sew them together for rather big Crazy-Quilts. I find this ery Relaxing but it really is crazy.

A long, long time ago I spent 2 years in the US as a foreign exchange student. On Christmas morning I found a note under the Christmas tree that said I could make a long distance call to my parents in the Neatherlands. A gift that comes to mind that I think about every Christmas time isn't that it was unusual but that I hadn't appreciated it at the time. When I was a teen my mother had knitted me a sweater for Christmas. When I opened it I was so disappointed and hated that sweater, I never told my mom that. I don't know what happened to it but I sure do wish I had that sweater now.
Thanks for the chance to win such a fun book, I would have to incorporate some wool into those projects, though.....

Probably the most unusual was when my hubby gave me 5 envelopes for Christmas one year. The first one was a membership to American Quilters Society. The second one was a hotel reservation for Paducah KY. The third envelope was a reservation for a rental car. Fourth was an airline ticket and the fifth was registration for the Quilt show! He knew I wanted to attend the quilt show for a long time. So when he was traveling, he stayed at a hotel in Paducah and made the arrangements for me to stay. My girlfriend met me there and we had the best time.
Love the book. Thanks for the giveaway.

I was the lucky recipient of an indoor/outdoor shop vacuum for Christmas from my husband. All my friends had wild guesses as to what was in the big box under the tree. Nothing so exciting for me - my Mother in Law used to give me socks and underwear when I was first married - all fine except she bought them the same size as her 4 daughters, they are all barely 5' tall and tiny. I am average sized and like a giant next to them, especially with my size 10 feet. Needless to say nothing fit. Thanks! Have a wonderful Christmas!

The most unusual gift I ever received has to be a gas tank I got from my son. My husband was restoring a '66 mustang for me and he assured my son that a gas tank for it was just what I wanted! It was, of course, a huge package and (well, I suppose it's hard to wrap a gas tank) a bit bulky. I couldn't imagine what it was, either before or after I opened it!

I was having trouble thinking of an unusual Christmas gift, until I substituted unique for unusual. Both of my now-adult children have always shared my love of crafts and handmade gifts. I receive so much pleasure each year when I decorate my small tree with their handmade treasures. Happy holidays!

One of my favorite Christmas gifts some would consider unusual. Mamah always gave all the cousins firecrackers and sparklers for Christmas and we would all go in the back 40 on the farm and pop them off. I loved it! I'm not sure cousins still get together like that, but we remember our history together every time we're all at a family funeral or wedding. Now that Mamah is gone and most of our parents, that's when we usually see each other now.
