Another Hexagon Quilt Finished

I wanted to show you the little quilt I made for a friend for Christmas starring some of my leftover hexagons -

If you are like me, once you started you couldn't stop making these and have many more than you actually need. So it was nice to use up a few in a different kind of quilt. I also made it mostly with primary colors, a little out of the box for me since I often use muted colors. At first the yellow was a stretch but she loves chrome yellow so I tried to work it in and I think it looks good. I couldn't resist this red print for the border, which was left over from a quilt I made that's in The Civil War Sewing Circle -  the Album quilt on page 64.

After making this hexagon quilt my original hexagon quilt (from the same book, The Civil War Sewing Circle) is beginning to look rather dull  : (

Very cute little hexagon quilt. Love the border fabric. I have one very small piece that I've been saving. Don't think it's big enough for a border, even on a small quilt. But I'm sure it will come in handy for something else. Perhaps a hexagon, or small 9 patch.

I've been working with hexagons myself lately - so easy to deal with them in the evening while watching TV!

Your little quilt is just darling & hope your friend loves it as much as I do!!! The colors are great--yellow always works in my book. We are getting quite a lot of snow in Nebraska & they have all the schools closed. Good quilting weather---looks like it is coming your way.

Kathy, since we made the hexagon quilt for one of the monthly quilts I haven't stopped. I'm working on one done in all civil war fabrics. They are all fussy cut,and set in an antique muslin. I love to make them while watching TV. I don't have a plan on how big this quilt will be, it's like the energizer bunny. It just keeps going and going. But it sure is fun!! I bet your friend loves hers! Karen/IL.

I am totally in love with all things hexie right now. The little one with the yellow is so cute. But the first one, the one from the book is still just beautiful.

What a great idea! Hexies are so addictive and it's nice to see another way of using them.

Kathy,
I absolutely adore both Hexagon quilts, but I especially love mine in the first picture. I am so lucky to have Kathy as a great friend and extra lucky that she made me such a gorgeous quilt for Christmas. I have yet to make the hexagon quilt from her book, because it requires a lot of hand sewing. I usually avoid hand sewing as much as I can. I guess I like the immediate gratification of machine piecing.
Kathy is an inspiration to me and encourages me to slow down and sew by hand. This little quilt has pushed me towards making my first hexagon very soon. Thank You again Kathy

Oh, I love this! I never think to make little quilts with only 4 blocks but I always love them when I see them.

I love the little quilt you made for your friend! I especially like the two border fabrics, such rich color. Could you tell me what those two fabrics are, if not too old I'd like to try and source them. I'm always looking for rich reds and blues but have a hard time finding them. I really like this little piece and think I'll have to make one! Thanks for your lovely blog!

Dull? No way! Both quilts are lovely, as is the album quilt. I'm so glad I stumbled across your group and books!
