Snow What's New??

The calm after the storm has arrived and we are mostly getting along fine. Our streets are plowed, the driveway is shoveled and life is just about back to normal after 2 days of digging out. The sun came out today.

It's very cold (18 degrees) but so pretty! I love showing pictures of our snow because I know so many of you live in places that don't get any snow at all. How sad.

My street from our driveway.

I drove to the Post Office today and while the streets are okay, many intersections have these huge snow mountains that make it difficult to see cross traffic. Twice, I almost hit someone as I was edging out into traffic to see past the snow mounds.

Some of us are really loving it - once a kid always a kid, huh? It took about an hour for the poor dog to thaw out after diving into snow drifts.

Yesterday, while my husband was busy working on shoveling the driveway and paths  I took it easy and finished this sweet little cross stitch I started in December. Perfect for a snowbound day!

Sometime soon I'm going with some friends to a favorite cross stitch shop that's about an hour away. We haven't been there for a couple of years and I'm looking forward to picking up a few little patterns to work on in between my quilt projects.

Oh, some of you may be interested in this Civil War Sewing Circle club offered by Homestead Hearth Quilt Shop. I am not affiliated with them at all but it looks really cool. Hey, I want to join! Oops, I forgot - I already made the quilts . . .

Thanks for sharing your pictures. We Central Texans wouldn't know what to do with all that white stuff!

I live in New Mexico now but I lived in Northbrook, IL for 25 years. I remember snow like that! We only got 8" here on Tuesday but that is plenty. We are in a deep freeze here today, it is about 12 degrees now. It was -5 this morning. We are in the middle of the low natural gas flow problems now. Everyone in the state has been asked to lower the thermostat 10 degrees and conserve natural gas and electricity. What fun winter is! It will start warming up tomorrow but the cold is headed your way! Stay safe and warm up there.

Thanks for sharing your pics from this and your previous post. Here we are sweltering in 95F temps, today and over the weekend (late 80's, early 90'sF)forecast. I'll be hiding in my sewing room downstairs where it is cooler!
BTW just love your X-stitch project. I bought some X-stitch patterns recently, it's something I would like to get into too!
Keep warm!

You take great pictures. We got dug out about 6PM on Wed. Like your little cross stitch. What cross stitch store are you going to? My favorite for the last 20 years or so is The Country Cupboard in Orland Park, IL. Have a fun outing. Connie204

I think there's a cross stitch shop in Geneva? I'm from St. Charles - but spending the winter in Florida! Lovely today! I do love the snow from inside!! Do you know the Longhini family in Deerfield?

We don't have snow, only rain. I have orderd the book but I'm still waiting till it gets here. Love your cross stitching, is it a prairie schooler design?

Kathleen Tracy said...

Yes, it is Prairie Schooler - from the pattern Up on the Housetop, now out of print.

Carin said...

You mean book no. 25 Up on the housetop?

Kathleen Tracy said...

Oops - wrong booklet. It's called Home for Christmas by Prairie Schooler. Here it is on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Home-Christmas-Prairie-Schooler-X-Stitch-Pattern-/120681346963?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c192b3793

I have so many of their Christmas patterns I can't keep track.
