Slow and Steady Wins the Race

I know it's not really a race or I would have conceded a long time ago.  I STILL have 3 blocks left to go to finish the center of my Dear Jane quilt. I had 2 separate days picked out last month to work on them but got interrupted with family things and never got to it. Oh well.

Even if I don't have time to work on the blocks I haven't forgotten them. I still like to take them out and post photos now and then because it really encourages me to keep going.

Today's not going to be the day and probably not tomorrow either because I have too many other things I need to work on. But I AM thinking about you, Jane. I often wonder how long it took you to complete your quilt and if you ever struggled.

Small goals - Three more blocks.

It's not a race, it's not a race, it's NOT a race.

  2. Kathleen, each of your blocks is beautiful. You will have a very treasured quilt when you are done and you will never be sorry that you expended the effort to finish it. I am always glad that I finished mine.

  3. You are so close to having all the center blocks completed, and, let me tell you....you are going to have an awesome quilt!! I know you still have the triangles to do, but I know already, this one is going to be amazing.... I have the pattern, and I have amassed quite a stash of Civil War reproduction fabrics to use, but I have not made the first stitch...Your progress has inspired me so much, and hopefully I will begin my Dear Jane journey sometime this year.... Thanks for all you do to inspire so many quilters!

  5. Well done so far - the photos of the blocks look so pretty. Modern lives are much more complicated and a person can only hope for free time now and again.

  9. That's right Kathy, it's not a race, it's a journey. In my case.. a snail's pace journey, but that's okay too. Like you, i think about it all the time, every time i walk past my design wall, and i know i'll get back to it soon.. just not today.
Btw i love your blocks :))

  10. I can't believe you are down to only 3 blocks left! I love every one of them. It will be a beautiful example of Dear Jane when finished. Wouldn't Jane be amazed at all the quilts made in her name? I'd love to time travel to tell her she has a world-wide fan club. :)

  13. You go girl! Just 3 more blocks! It is a challenge but how rewarding will it be once it is finished!
I am half way quilting and sometimes it feels like I will never finish it but I know I will!
    Keep Jo the DJ spirit!

  14. I was thinking of you at Chicago quilt festival last week. I was wondering if you made it there this year. There were a lot of Dear Jane's on display, some in very unexpected fabrics & some with different finishes that didn't include all the blocks. All impressive & inspiring. For a moment I was tempted...I quickly hurried away😉 What you have accomplished on yours is already impressive! Loved your post about the Dutch & Swedish culture too, so interesting. I might be in the wrong country.

  15. Candee - I did not make it to the Quilt Fest this year. First one I've missed in a long time.

  16. You made an interesting comment, how long did it take Jane to finish hers? What events happened in between stitching all the little blocks? Happy Easter, Happy Spring, love your blog.
