This one is for Jane. She's a snowbird in Florida right now but she asked me to post pictures of winter in Chicagoland. Like she's missing it or something as she sips her wine coolers at the pool.
Today was very cold. It was 7 degrees when I went out to drop off library books, pick up a prescription and run through the drive through at the bank. I took the dog with me and we stopped to see if the park was plowed. Yes indeed, it sure was, but it was too cold to do anything but get out and snap a picture. Jane - you owe me.
No one but fools like us out on the road today.
Jane - I imagine you are spending every day at the pool. Look - we have a pool too.
It's pretty exciting to actually get to go to the park after being stuck inside for days what with all the rain we've had lately.
After less than 2 minutes someone was ready to get back in the car.
We drove past our Underground Railroad house dating from the mid-1800s. I wanted to live there when I heard it was up for sale a few years ago. But my husband said we couldn't buy it. Something to do with the million plus dollar price tag. The new owners kept the bones but totally renovated it and modernized it so it is no longer a historical property. Pity. I would have bought it and restored it. But, as I said, there was this little thing about the money . . . .LOL.
At least it was a sunny day. It went up to 11 degrees.
Don't stare at it too long.
Ice in the parking lot.
The ice skating pond where my kids used to skate.
Some of you who live in a sunny, warmer climate or are visiting one will be getting down on your knees about now and thanking your lucky stars you aren't here. But don't feel bad for me. I love cold and snow. I went home and made a nice cup of tea and then cozied up with a quilt and my laptop on the couch and finished writing a few patterns for the new book. It's all good.
Well, I'm not exactly sure which part of Florida Jane is in, but I can tell you that western NC had plenty of wind and cold today. We'll probably dip down to 19 tonight. So even though there's no snow, lots of quilts are needed here. Thanks for sharing the pretty pictures.
ReplyDeleteHi, I love your scenery-so beautiful covered in white. Here in Northern Colorado, we still have plenty of the stuff on the ground, but I'm not walking as much as I usually do for fear of slipping. Your pup is adorable! Hunter would love to be outside walking, but not today. Love the photo of your quilt and your pup on the couch-Hunter also sits on the top of the couch, so he has a good vantage point. I've got a cup of tea going, but will need to switch to herbal for the next cup.
ReplyDeleteRight now we are sitting at a balmy 36 degrees, guess I need shorts on-lol.
Hugs, Noreen
Oh I just love all those photos of snow! Today was our first snowfall but it was just a dusting. Nice day to walk in 30* weather. It's a bit more chilly where you are. Ah Jane is sipping Merlot by the pool in her sunglasses lol...you & I are kindred spirits, snuggled under our quilts & loving the snow!
ReplyDeleteI live in Central Florida and it was 37 degrees last night. But I AM very, very, VERY thankful to live in the sunshine state. We may get a few days of cold, but it will warm up into the 70's by the weekend. Yes, pour me another glass :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm in Australia and we're due a heat wave tomorrow- I can't even imagine snow right now, it's been years and years and years since I saw any!
ReplyDeletewe're having way to warm winter weather Would love to snuggle up with some cold snow!
ReplyDeleteFeel bad for you??? I would love the have that amount of snow outside. Here in Holland we feel like we are still in the fall season.....nothing but wind and rain! Snow looks som much better and is so much more fun! Thanks for the great pictures....I keep dreaming! I really need to get to the States in wintertime!
ReplyDeleteWe too love the snow and cold, and in the UK we have had lots and lots of rain, although they have forecast it getting colder over the next few days and maybe some snow. Love the pictures. Hugs, Susie x
ReplyDeleteDid someone mention rain! I live in Washington state and that is what we have had for three days. It is also very cold but to me it shouts quilting time. I too have been hugging a quilt close to the heater.
ReplyDeletei'm in maine but still glad not at your place. we got 6" overnite but the city plow guys are on banker's hours so streets not clear as of this writing (11am)...the perm residents have been trained not to expect plowed roads too quickly here...
ReplyDeleteYour biggest fan from Naples FL and Hayward Wisc clapping with glee....I don't do no stinkin wine coolers but I do as Ann said have a lady like sip of merlot now and then. I am Teary looking at your pictures. Growing up in NW Chicago suburbs out in farm city USA the snow and ice bring back good memories...my doggie is sooo happy you are indulging us both being outside taking these wonderful pictures.
ReplyDeleteI am married to Mr Iceberg.....yet I am also whacky. It was 57, wind blowing and I valiantly went to condo pool at 8:30am and turned on water aerobics tape and splashed merrily at full tilt effort (attempting to actually feel warm) for 45 minutes and then with a mere bath towel wrapped around me marched back to the warm and toasty condo. Nope ..all the windows open in the condo with hurricane first cold wind....
Quilting.....yesterday I did look at piles of fabric, after I came back from eye specialist. I am taking leap to see well again. Scary. But with you writing a new book dedicated to me (heheheheh) I thought I should be able to read the verbiage you are crafting so thoroughly and be able to see all these new miniature beauties without cocking my head like a parakeet holding the book in and out.
Pat my lovely pup, have a nice snuggle (snooze, come on now) and wake up to a hot chocolate. Everyone else, as you were.....having a great day.
Jane.....any typos not my responsibility.... :0)P
I have a rotten friend who keeps posting pictures of her winter in Hawaii...boo hoo...like you I love my seasons and it is during this season I make the most progress on my UFO's
ReplyDeleteLoved the pictures. Here in Rochester, NY, it is cold with little snow. I want to try snowshoeing, so need more snow.Like the idea of having a cup of tea, & looking at quilting magazines.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures Kathy. I also like the snow, but just not so cold!!! You have more snow than we do here in Northwestern Il. I am so excited about the new book your working on:))))
ReplyDeleteThank you - beautiful pictures for me to enjoy after enduring a 42C (about 114f) day!
ReplyDeleteBrrrr......no snow yet here in Broken Arrow, Ok. Last Saturday it snowed in Tulsa but none here 6 miles away,
ReplyDeleteWell, we don't have snow but the rain is never ending here. We had the wettest December in history this last year. Oregon is famous for rain but enough is enough. At least you can go out and stay dry in the snow.
ReplyDeleteI love the quilt in this post picture. Is it an original or is it a traditional. I am still pretty much a newbie. Just been quilting for about 5 years. I feel like I am still a newbie. I did recently finish a Hawaiian Quilt queen size for my daughter. Took me two years and it was all hand turned applique. Whew. Love it but didn't know what I was getting myself into. I feel proud of my accomplishments on that one.You can see it on my blog if you wish to see it. punchdrunkneedleworks.blogspot.com.
Would love to know the name and design of your quilt here in this post.
Thanks, Jan - this quilt is in my book Remembering Adelia. It's called Calico Comfort. I love it too.
