Some of you may remember that last year I had a giveaway of some sweet little prints designed by Renee Nanneman for Andover Fabrics - Little Sweethearts. I designed a cute little table runner (above) with some of the prints and added my own shirtings. The pattern is still available for sale on my website. I bought quite a bit of this fabric last year to make up kits to go along with the pattern but then had to keep reordering more fabric, got tired of all the cutting and decided that, at that time in my life, kits were just too time intensive and I wanted to move on to other things so I stopped taking time to make them and put the fabric away in a drawer.
I love hearts.
I still have some of this fabric left over from the kits I was making and wanted to give it away in scrap packs. There's plenty in there to make some cute blocks but not enough fabric for borders or setting pieces, so not really enough to make any kits. You can add your own shirtings and make a small quilt. I have enough to give away 4 packs, all mixed with these sweet pink, white and red Little Sweethearts prints.
All you have to do is leave me a comment and tell me what was the sweetest thing that anyone ever did for you on Valentine's Day. Comments will close on Sunday and I will announce the 4 winners on Monday. Please be sure to leave a way for me to contact you. If you sign your post "Anonymous" or don't leave an e-mail or a blog link I will pass over your name and go on to the next pick. Good luck!
Happy Valentine's Day!

careful what you set your heart on, for it
will surely be yours." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
A few years ago, my sweet friend Shirley cut and prepped these little basket blocks for me. Sorry, Shirley, I know, I feel bad that I still haven't put them into a quilt yet : ( But it sure is probably one of the sweetest things anyone has ever done for me.
"Follow your heart, but be quiet for a while first. Ask questions, then feel the answer. Learn to trust your heart." ~Unknown
Obviously, not all of you will be winners and that makes me sad, so as consolation in advance, here's a link to this free primitive Valentine's Day cross stitch pattern I found here.
Have a Sweet Day!
My favorite Valentine gifts were the little cards my kids made for me when they were little - lots of mispelled words and cute little drawings - I've saved most of them! Thanks for sharing these great little heart fabrics - they'll be fun to include in a small quilt!
ReplyDeleteHi! My husband sent a singing quartet to my work (I work in the ER) and they sang to me! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteSo far the sweetest thing that has happened to me on Valentine's Day is my hubby surprising me with chocolates... last year was chocolate covered strawberries delivered to my office... year before was a box of chocolates placed in my car... haven't found this year's chocolates yet though! Love those little basket blocks.. and I'd also love a chance at winning some of those pretty fabrics!
ReplyDeleteWhen my Father came home with candy & flowers for my Mother, he always had some sweet treats for me, too. Those "left-over" fabrics are adorable. Love the pretty baskets and thank you for Valentine Stitchery link. (Hugs & Chocolate Kisses)
ReplyDeleteI remember one Valentine's Day that my boys made hearts out of red lego's and left them hidden all over the house for me to find. It was a long time before I let them take the hearts apart and add them back into their lego sets!
ReplyDeleteIt has to been the cards from the children. I still have them. I now have 3.5 grandchildren all under the age of two and a half, so I hope I get valentines from them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the give away.

My friends made a pillow for me that had picture of my mom and dad when they were married. They decorated it with lots of ribbon embroidery, old buttons, and meaningful charms. It was and still is a precious gift. Thank you for your offering of these lovely little fabrics - of course I would love to win!
ReplyDeleteI love the pink and red prints. I would be happy to take some of them off of your hands and make something from them. I have other pink and red prints (including some with hearts on them) that would go well with them. I read your blog regularly.

Valentine's day has always been my favorite day, partly because my birthday is the day before, so it was always like a two day celebration. My biggest wish for every Valentine's day has always been to receive just a box of chocolates--a simple wish, however that always seems to elude me year after year. I have yet to figure that out! So I would say the sweetest thing are the Valentine swaps that I have done with online friends through the years and the fun and excitement of creating something special for them and receiving the sweet little tokens back from them in return. :)

I've always loved those pretty little pinks. Thanks for doing this sweet giveaway.
ReplyDeleteMy dad was a great lover of Valentine's Day and would always buy chocolates for my mom and I. One year, he gave me a silver heart locket with a photo of he and my mom. I treasure it still.
I would say that one if my favorite Valentine's Day was when my husband sent flowers to me at work! What a surprise....fun day! I hope to win your lovely red and pin materials! I am sure I can make something cute!.,thanks!
ReplyDeleteSince I'm in the hospital this year my special treat was my husband coming early this morning and sitting me in my therapy session.
ReplyDeleteI love the pink and red prints and would be honored to be chosen to receive a pack of them.

ReplyDeleteWe lost our home and everything we owned to a fire. On Valentines day a secret angel brought us blankets, sheets, pillows, dishes and candy. The people I work with brought us bags of groceries. How special is all of that. As we rebuild our lives so many people have touch it in a very special way.
ReplyDeleteI just received a cute heart-shaped puzzle, colored by my 4 year-old granddaughter Ellie! It's my favorite Valentine yet--at least until I receive something handmade from my 2 little grandsons! Love the fabrics and appreciate the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteRobin in Iowa
I was just thinking about this...,both of my parents have passed on, but when I was little my dad always bought my mom a heart shaped box of chocolates and I always got a smaller heart shaped box of some other candy, jelly hearts or conversation hearts. It always made me feel loved and special. Miss my parents every single day. Love your quilts and these little packs of pink and red!
ReplyDeleteOne year my boyfriend sent me a big box of chocolates with a teddy bear attached to it...Thanks for the giveaway..

ReplyDeleteThe sweetest Valentines are the handmade ones I receive from my grandkids made of colored paper, paper doilies, glitter (lots of glitter!) stickers, and their precious names printed in their best hand writing. It doesn't get any better than that! They are so proud when their Valentines are displayed on Grandma's refrigerator. ritanicholsec@yahoo.com
I can't think of one thing that is the sweetest, because each year my husband and children express their love for me in the most special ways. It's all good!
ReplyDeleteI miss getting a gift and card from my husband, now that he is gone.
ReplyDeleteI've received Valentines for the last three years that involve hands and feet of grandbabies...those are definitely the sweetest!! Lovely giveaway -- thank you! :)
ReplyDeleteI just got a darling one with my new grandson's footprints that made a heart and said I Love You. It has to be my newest favorite Valentine. I love what you do! You are such an inspiration to all of us. Lovely giveaway...hoping I win:)
ReplyDeleteMy son, who was 18 at the time wanted to give me a gift but had no money at that time so he dove into my cross stitch stash and stitched up a little design. I was moved to tears. I framed it and treasure it. The stitching isnt perfect, thats not his thing, but he knew it is mine and that gives it extra meaning.
ReplyDeleteLike another lady said - My Dad never forgot my Mom on Valentine's Day and he always had a little something for me. It was usually cinnamon hearts in a fancy container. Can't think of them without thinking of Dad. My husband never forgets to do a little something special for me as well. Today I received 2 dozen carnations. My 2 yr old gd came in with a beautiful arrangement of flowers for me. So Happy.

One valentines my husband told me he had something green for me. I had my eye on a lovely emerald ring. Well I got home and he had put green shutters on the house. Now this house we bought was a fixer upper and really needed shutters - there were none so I was really surprised and happy. THEN he gave me the emerald I wanted on top of that!!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a little girl, my father would stop off on his way home from work at Woolworth's five and dime to buy a present for my mom and me. He would buy each of us a heart shaped box of candy and he would buy my mom a pair of Belle Charme stockings (the
ReplyDeleteWoolworth's brand). When I was 12, he brought me a pair of stockings too. I felt so grown up. I wore them to church that Sunday. That was 53 years ago and I can still remember how delighted I was.
The sweetest thing for me was when my kids would bring home hand made cards and presents from school. I always treasured those.
ReplyDeleteThank you for doing this. :)
I was 10-1945 and got a card"You are my Valentine" from a cousin in Us and had newer heard about this day. The card was a little girl and and I had this special many.many years even with a broken neck but suddenly she was gone. I miss it because it was such a nice surprise from my cousin Doris in WA.

ReplyDeletemy only son was born 21 years ago on 2/11. my brother came to see us at home for his first visit on 2/14. he brought me flowers, tied in red and white ribbons, and balloons too. he told even new mommies needed flowers for valentine's day. I lost my brother last year on 2/10, I still miss him.
My sweet husband just shoveled more than a foot of snow off of our sidewalks and driveway so that we can get out for dinner.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, while raising our family our kids always made the homemade card or craft-love them. And all through the years, my husband makes everyone special by either chocolates, dinner out, and this year beautiful small glass dishes that will hold...you guessed it Pincushions:)! I would love a chance to win your heartfelt give away Kathy, thank you:)

Sweetest thing. My mother in law (94 on Monday) gave me an old brown/speckled, pottery jug today. I had visited this am, talked, did some chores, changed the flower water in the jug and another vase. She said - Take the jug Carol - so I did! I always liked it, and its so much nicer to be given something than take it when she is no longer there. Umm it was a sweet thing to receive, and unexpected.

I used to pick up a group of children my daughter's age from their daycare and transport them to and from preschool several days each week. On Valentine's Day, the smiling tots all greeted me with gifts. I felt very appreciated. That was many years ago, and those tots and now adults, some with children of their own.
ReplyDeleteLove your leftover fabrics. My favorite Valentine's Day was the second one with my now husband. He had been out of work for a while and couldn't afford to take me out for V-day. He cooked a beautiful meal and carved apples into swans with other fruit for desert. It was so sweet.
ReplyDeleteWould love a chance to win some fabric you have from old kits :) Thanks for the chance... easy answer is a mother's ring I got one Valentines from my now deceased husband... I still wear it today :) Kathi
ReplyDeleteMy husband gave me a puppy for Valentine's Day many years ago before we had children. I thought that was so sweet!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love all of the handmade cards my boys have made over the years!
Happy Valentine's Day to you! I love valentine fabric! I can't think of a 'best Valentine's ever'~ they have all been special. I loved when the kids were smaller and came home with handmade cards. :-) One year our youngest insisted my hubby take him shopping (he was 6 at the time) and he bought a paper book for me because he knew I liked to read. I still have it. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe best memory of Valentines Day was my son bringing home a grubby, dirty card he had made in school for me and looking at me with a look of pride while giving it to me. I have it still!
ReplyDeleteWe have been together a long time. We have gone to dinner, given each other chocolates, chocolate dipped strawberries, flowers, champagne - all of it. Yesterday we decided we didn't want to do all of that because we felt it no longer had anything to do with how we felt about each other. So we walked down to the local coffee shop hand in hand and just talked and laughed. That is when I am reminded of how much I love him -when he tells me stories and makes me laugh! :))

That's a hard question -- I guess it has made me realize that I don't have a lot of good Valentine's Day memories. Eeek! But before my husband and I were dating, we were part of a group of college friends who all lived in the same dorm. I happened to be sick -- really sick. So I was in my pajamas, in my dorm room in bed - suffering through my cold. My future husband came to the room to deliver pink carnations to me and my roommate as a gesture of friendship on Valentine's Day. Since I was laying there half asleep - he placed the carnation on top of the blankets on my chest. I felt the blankets move slightly and opened my eyes to see what he had done. It was an incredibly sweet gesture on his part -- but with the blankets all tucked up around me, and the flower laying on my chest it kind of made me look like I was laying in a casket. Again, a nice gesture - but to this day (22 years later) I joke with him about how it ended up looking. He gets mad thinking that I didn't appreciate the flower. I DID appreciate it -- I just didn't want to look like I was dead! -- Amy (lexingtonquilter@embarqmail.com)

ReplyDeleteMy husband usually takes me out to dinner but yesterday we were expecting a Nor'easter storm and it lasted until today. He knew the storm was coming so he ordered some cupcakes with pink frosting. He picked them up before the storm and gave them to me yesterday. The 53 years we have been married it was the first time he bought something for Valentines Day. I really appreciate that he thought of something like the cupcakes and I would have something for this special day. We did receive 16 inches of snow. I love the pink baskets and would love to win this fabric. thanks

The nicest thing for Valentines day that was done for me (that I can remember LOL) was my husband took me to a wonder dinner, at a resturant that we could not afford, sent me a dozen long stemed roses, bought me a card and a box of candy! We had a very nice evening.

ReplyDeleteJust today, on Valentine's Day I received a letter from my 14 yr old son. It was a school project, he was to write a letter to a person he felt had effected him in his life. Especially in the age of email, I'll have something to hold near my heart and cherish forever. Thanks for letting me tell someone, I just got the mail. ;-> Toni Anne

My hubby gave me a rose and said the most precious things to me. It was a very special time. We have been together for 49 years, and I think we love each other more now than when we first married. Thanks for the sweet giveaway. The fabrics and pattern are lovely.

The first Valentines day after my mom died suddenly, my dad in the midst of both physical and emotional pain, made sure "his girls" (my sister and I) had a valentines day present (a traditional my mom had always done). He bought my sister and I perfume and it happened to be our favorite. I guessed he paid more attention to what we liked than we ever knew.
ReplyDeleteThe sweetest thing for valentine's day has to be hand drawn cards when my kids were little.

ReplyDeleteThe love of my life proposed to me Valentine's weekend 40 years ago. Saying yes was the best decision I've ever made! I don't have much in pinks or reds in my fabric collection; these would be a lovely addition! Thank you for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteA very good friend of mine took quilt lessons and made me a quilt for my retirement from the US Air force. She even machine quilted it. It was her first quilt ever. On the outside of the package was a little package of patriotic tissues...Yes,I cried. And she knew I would!!!! She kept off a secret from me and had all my friends sign it. Afchik@myfairpoint.net

Hmmmm sweetest thing....would be my long time quilt friend sedimg me her perfectly lovely "scraps" that were cut into my favorite sizes "just because." They were batiks and I don't have those in any great quantity and had a swap I needed to,complete....she is selfless...five kids in college.....lives in middle of nowhere in Alberta so mailing is hardship. She is a old and thoughtful friend. I would probably make her something with the scraps as she is my Canadian valentine

My hubby has been so sweet these past few weeks. Our third baby was born, and I had a hard pregnancy but thankfully no real comications this time. But since then, recovery has been awful. He's been taking care if everything and everyone else, cooking, potty-training, and encouraging me to rest. He went back to work finally, and came home this morning on valentines, with dark chocolate and a single rose--just to make me smile!

19 years ago, I had an extended Valentine's Day when my precious granddaughter was born the next day. Another year, my dh gifted me with a large box of chocolates in an especially beautiful heart-shaped box. ReplyDeleteWow! Just read these comments and so touching. I honestly don't have a memorable Valentines Day. I get flowers when I least expect it throughout the year. It's more fun that way for him. Thanks for sharing the pattern as I've bookmarked it now.
ReplyDeletehubs just saying how much he loved me and appreciated me raising his kids as my own. he also liked to buy me jewelry which we don't do anymore. That is a tough question to answer as I've had to many really wonderful things given and/or done for me on Valentine's Day from my husband.
ReplyDeleteI have to say he did something this year that was super sweet. He made me breakfast for Valentine's Day, which he does often. He makes me eggs in the hole, which some may not know what those are, but it's a piece of bread with a hole cut in the center with an egg dropped in, then it's fried in the pan and as the egg cooks, the bread is toasted. This year he did something he's never done in all the years we've been together and instead of making the hole in the center, he carved a little heart shape there. He then toasted the heart he had cut out in the pan with the breakfast. I thought it was really sweet. He sent me a flower bouquet of red tulips and blue iris which are my favorite too. While making breakfast is something he does once in awhile, I just thought it was extra sweet of him to make that heart in the bread.
The sweetest thing was a handmade card from my husband when our oldest son was a baby. Attached to the card was a little pinky ring that I still have and cherish. Thanks for the sweet giveaway :)

ReplyDeleteMy sweetest Valentine's were the ones my children made for me when they were small. They were always so earnest in their affection!
ReplyDeleteHand-made cards and gifts by the children in my life are my favorite gifts. auntie.clark@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI taught biology at the local high school for twenty years. My husband would pop into class first hour with a bouquet of flowers and give me a kiss and wish me "Happy Valentine's Day". It was always special. My "rascally" boys in the class were wide-eyed also as he did this. They knew I appreciated it. I hope they do they same for their spouses now.
ReplyDeleteI would say handmade valentine cards from the children and the grand children are the sweetest things I have ever received on valentines day!
ReplyDeleteI am away from home tending to my sister-in-law who is in hospice care for breast cancer. My brother gave her this stuffed puppy for her birthday, holding it keeps her hands from clenching. When we gathered to turn her at 12:05 on valentine's, my brother had her whole bed piled with puppies, one for each of the folks helping her.sweetest thing ever.hawkbmjp@mchsi.com
ReplyDeleteThe sweetest thing anyone ever did for me happened in 1993. My (now) husband took me on a long walk in the woods, carried me over a little stream, placed me on a large throne (rock), and got down on one knee to propose. I had to say "yes"! How could I not?! We were married that June and are still going strong.
ReplyDeleteThose fabrics are definitely sweet treats. One of my favorite Valentin's day treats was when my husband sent flowers to me while I was working. Everyone got to enjoy the flowers all day.
ReplyDeleteOne year my husband bought me a bedroom set that I had always wanted. Cute fabrics.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a young Mom with 5 young children, times were tough but I'll always remember the time my husband left for work early and hadn't said anything about Valentine's Day. As I was doing my usual housework, dusting, etc., I found a newspaper advertisement featuring a huge Valentine. He had placed in on the of a lampshade and when I turned on the light, it shone through. That always has stayed with me. I'm a great grandmother now but along with the cards my kids made me, that newspaper heart has held a special place for me.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Valentine's gift was from my kids. They made little fabric weights shaped like hearts. (or mostly shapped like hearts LOL)
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteSome years it was a card, others it was candy or flowers. No matter what it was, the thought is what impressed me most.
Hope you had a great V. day and thanks for the chance to win.

Many years ago, we went to Daytona. I was in SC on a business trip, and he drove solo from IN to get me. Come Valentine's Day, he surprised me with a gift that he had thoughtfully purchased and packed for the trip. Being remembered is the greatest gift of all.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the giveaway, Kathy. I hope you enjoyed your Valentine's Day too.

My son's "i love you"s have always sounded like "ayuhyou" - pretty hard to understand. Yesterday (after a lot of practice with his speech therapist) it really sounded like "I Luff You!" it was a pretty awesome valentine. : )
ReplyDeleteWell, one of the sweetest things that my husband did for me on valentine's day was yesterday. He took me to the fabric store and bought me a new Ott floor-lamp. My old one broke and he decided that I needed a new one. A big thank you and hug for him.
ReplyDeleteMy first Valentines Day with my husband, my mother-in-law came over with little homemade Valentines treats. I really felt welcomed into the family.
ReplyDeleteFrom my quiltingfriends I got 14 heartblocks with a little heart left out of the big heart and sewed beside the big heart.
ReplyDeleteBecause I lost my youngest sister and I became 60 years old.
They love me and I have a hole in my heart because my sister died.
I cried when they gave them to me.
So sweet.

ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend (who is now my husband) once bought me a huge special edition tin of Milk Tray Chocolates, the tin was round and the lid was embossed with a picture. I kept if for years after we were married, wish I had kept it longer as we have never seen anything like it since!
ReplyDeleteThe sweetest thing my hubby did was a few years ago when he made dinner instead of going out.
ReplyDeleteProbably the sweetest thing in our family was the Valentines Day my little sister got married. They're still celebrating each anniversary 40-some years later!

My wonderful husband asked me to marry him on Valentine's Day, so that would have to count as the sweetest thing! Love these fabrics and your little quilt. I hope I win, but if not I'll try to console myself with the cross stitch pattern. Thanks Kathy! nyla@valornet.com
ReplyDeleteFor Valentines Day several years ago, my hubby planned a Hawaiian vacation to surprise me. It was wonderful!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby always gives me the cutest stuffed toy.
ReplyDeleteThe sweetest thing? Many years ago a boyfriend had flowers delivered to me at work.
ReplyDeleteEarly in our marriage, we had two small children and NO money to spend. The night before Valentine's day my husband had gone to the store to pick up something we needed. I stayed up later than normal that evening. When I awoke the following morning, I found one red rose in a bud vase on the kitchen table. It had a toothpick taped to the stem holding up the bud. It had frozen while my husband had impatiently waited for me to go to bed so he could bring it in from the porch where he had left it. Of course there were no stores open as this was before stores openned 24/7. I still think of that Valentine's day with a smile.....Sue
ReplyDeleteLove all those fabrics! One year when our girls were around 10 or 11, they decided to make a romantic dinner. They had red and pink hearts scattered everywhere, set the table for 4 and brought their nightlights from their bedrooms for the "candlelight". Dinner was cereal with milk they had put red food coloring in.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a great giveaway and Happy Valentine's Day!

Wow Kathy, a fabric giveaway is great news, I don't have a stash, just a few fat quarters. I love those little baskets, they are so cute, what a nice thing for your friend to do and that pincushion is too precious.
ReplyDeleteKind regards

The nicest Valentine's Day I've ever had was this year. I visited my mom, my sister and brother-in-law took me out for lunch, my kids and husband gave me chocolate, and my husband took me out for dinner. All that happened in the same day! It's the best Valentine's Day I've ever had!
ReplyDeleteIf I win this, it will be the sweetest thing I have ever received.
