Wares for Sale

My friend Ingrid and I visited some antique shops over the weekend. Of course I always look for quilts and almost never find any that are in good shape for the price or to my liking. Have you noticed that almost everything these shops carry these days is glassware or dinnerware? Or hankies. At least that's what I seem to find in the shops around here. I would love to see more quilts. Doll quilts, especially, but I'm never that lucky.

Here's some different stuff. I loved these knitted animal hats, LOL. Reminded me of Lamb Chop - remember Lamb Chop??

Aha! They're upstairs!

I didn't love any of them well enough to buy. I  thought this one was sure cute though, even if it was pretty tattered.

I really love to see hexagon quilts. I am wondering if anyone is interested in doing a hexagon challenge or some other type of paper piecing in the Yahoo group this year? We were just talking about it because someone brought it up in the group. Don't worry, it would be a small quilt.

This is going to be a busy week for me, starting with a local presentation tonight a little northwest of Chicago and then a trip to Indianapolis later in the week. Maybe I'll try stopping at a couple of antique shops while I'm there if I have time, if the dogsitter doesn't mind my taking a little side trip, LOL. Don't need any dinnerware, hoping to find some quilts!

Actually I really like the cream pink basket quilt, they are such lovely soft colours. I also LOVE hexagons but am not in your Yahoo group, but I would love to participate in a hexagon challenge.

How lucky you are to have so many antique stores. I love hankies with tatting but don't find many affordable ones around here.

I would love a hexie challenge. I currently have 3 hexie projects and another to be start whhen I finish one but I can handle another :)

What a feast for the eyes....I loved it all! I bought a Antique Grandmother's Garden quilt last year it is so pretty and hails from American, nice that it found it's way to new Zealand's shores & then to me!
Yes I remember Lamb Chop!!!

Hexagon challange? How about I just work on the existing hex quilts...I'm just about finished with one, have another started, and pieces cut out for yet another...all different sizes of hexs and I've completed two in the past two years! Love hex quilts and hand-piecing! Would love to see some current projects by other hand piecers!

I remember Lamp Chop and Shari Lewis, used to watch them on my Nanna's tv (we didn't have one) You are so lucky to have antique shops with quilts, I haven't seen any here in Australia, usually see things like doilies, table cloths etc.

Hi Kathleen,
I too love antique quilts. Something about them just calls to me. I inherited a few vintage quilts from my grandmothers mostly from the 30's or 40's. I found a nice tulip quilt at a yard sale last summer which I purchased for $15. It is all hand quilted which I love. Good luck on your future searches. I am your newest blog follower. Peggy

Hexagons don't have to be paper pieced. They can be hand pieced with a running stitch.

I am making a paper-pieced hexagon quilt at the moment and LOVING it. I grew up with both my mum and grandmother working on hand pieced quilts, so it seems only natural for me to follow suit. I don't know if I would participate in a challenge because of time restraints but I would follow with interest!

Hexagon challenge, sounds great, we're a group that have started not too long ago, and the group grows every month! Meg, she got us all hooked, is just about to finish her Martha Washington replica http://quiltindex.kora.matrix.msu.edu/files/70/122/46-7A-DA-233-DARMuseum-a0a1b7-a_8319.jpg

Love the blog!
