You know that the Sentimental Quilter LOVES Thanksgiving. It's a great opportunity to show my sentimental side and reflect on all of the things I have to be grateful for this year. In many ways it hasn't been a great year for me and I could very easily focus on those things that have disrupted life and made it a little more difficult. Yet, once I sat down to write this, I was able to remind myself of all of the abundance surrounding me. Here's what I'm grateful for today (and so much more, of course):
A good night's sleep . . .
Waking up on a cold morning and feeling warmed not only by the blankets and quilt but by a little black puppy licking my toes and then remembering that my daughter was finally home and asleep in the next room . . .
That we will be celebrating Thanksgiving with extended family again this year and that my brother-in-law is cooking the turkey (!) and bringing it over. All I have to make is sides!
That my husband still has a job in this uncertain time of high unemployment and that my son was able to find one . . .
That I get to make quilts for a living (or try to anyway) . . .
That I have good friends and a loving family who support me and love me . . . even when I'm cranky and needy . . .
Two amazing children . . .
A sweet husband . . .
Sisters . . .
A sense of humor . . .
More fabric than I will ever need . . .
A really good cup of coffee . . .
Lots of good books to read . . .
The fact that you can buy just one song from an album on iTunes instead of the whole thing (I love that . . . )
Health and the body's ability to heal . . .
Feeling pretty good . . .
Lemon Lift tea . . .
Being able to say "Oh well" and find ways to stay above all of the stuff that can sometimes get you down . . .
Quilters from long ago and their marvelous quilts . . .
A good parking spot at the grocery 2 days in a row . . .
I could go on and on and on. What about YOU? Anything you're grateful for today?? Take a minute to share it with me - you won't believe how good it feels to write it down.
Good health, good friends, good food, good job, warm home, full heart, happy family. Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteFamily, good health, a roof over my head, and an abundant fabric stash! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteI take time every day to think of the blessings of my day. Today we went shopping for food and even though I have to cook and my husband has to work, we can still have a nice dinner and our family and a warm home.

I am Thankful for family, friends, the roof over my head, the bed that I can crawl into and the delicious food on my plate. I am also thankful for the sentimental quilter that is coming to teach a retreat in my home town in February. I am so excited. Thank you for your willingness to share your time and talent with other quilters. Happy Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteLike you I have many small things to be grateful for they all add up in the long run. Today it is that my feet didn`t hurt while working, that I woke up strong and happy with a job to go to. That when I come home I had time to see and make a mini with 3/4in 9patch blocks.
ReplyDeleteThankful that it is raining and I have friends to enjoy all seasons with. Thankful that I am blog land and able to read your posts and tell you what I am thankful for. To the American friends Happy Thanksgiving.
In no particular order, I am thankful for my husband, family, a roof over my head, food in the fridge and pantry, my cat, fabric and sewing machines, health, and my job (even though I want to stay home and sew all the time).
ReplyDeleteSo many things to be grateful for, hubby, 3 great kids, many German Shepards that have made a home with us, a sweet little old kitty cat, employment & the ability to be able to send the next 2 kiddo's through college. When I walk the beach I'm always reminded of what my Grandmother used to tell all of us "your problems are but a grain of sand in this world" (she was also a wonderful quilter, who was born in 1888) I'm so grateful that I had the parents and grandparents that I had, they were wonderful people.

I am thankful for health, employment, good people around me, a roof over my head, my sewing space where I can keep sane! My two dogs and one rescue cat, the rain on the roof tonight! Living in a decent and fair society without civil unrest or war, the right to free speech and expression. A lot to be grateful for really! I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!
ReplyDeleteI like your Thanksgiving traditions because you take time to be grateful for many things. That doesn't exist in France.I'm grateful for my 2 boys,my husband,my job, my warm house, my family and friends, sharing my passion for quilt. I'll think of you tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteOh I wish we had the tradition of Thanksgiving here in Norway... Nevertheless, I'm so thankful for being out of hospital, that my brother seems to have recovered, for my good husband, daugthers, grandson and rest of family, a lot of good friends, my urge to sew, knit, read, my job, my pupils, and I could go on and on...
ReplyDeleteHave a nice Thanksgiving, all of you!
I am so very thankful for the usual things/people/fur babies, and warmth in the winter and a/c in the summer, for a car that's in good repair, for food, shelter, a comfy bed, TV, things we sometimes take for granted, along with replacement knees and hips and the talented doctors who know how to install those things (!), AND for the talented designers, like you, who author the wonderful books and blogs I do so enjoy reading. Best wishes to you and your family, Kathy, and thank you for sharing your talents so generously.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your view of the good in our daily lives.
ReplyDeleteSometimes we need the daily things to provide the smile for a day.
I am thankful for my dear husband, good friends, new friends, sharing holiday recipes and good food.
I felt lucky that I was able to get in and out at the grocery store.
Very nice, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteFamily, friends, a hobby I love (quilting) , books, a wonderful country to live in despite all its failings, and especially good health. As I grow older, I realize how important the last is. Lots to be thankful for.
