Quilts sur le Table

My apologies to our French-speaking friends. I am trying to say Quilts on the Table, or "Table Quilts," our blog topic for today. But first I am going to tell you about my "productive" day so you will see how I got there from here.

I had nothing special planned today, for a change - a doctor's appointment this morning. When I came home I had breakfast with the dog (literally, since she was sitting patiently at my left side, waiting for me to drop something. She had been fed her first breakfast before I left.). Then I walked the dog. After that, I finished some e-mails, cleaned up the kitchen, vacuumed and mopped the floors and picked up a little.  My, how time flies.

The house was clean, which made me feel pretty good and motivated me to plan a nice dinner with my favorite salad on the side (recipe later). I climbed up onto the kitchen counter to get a better look inside one of the high cabinets for the glass cruet I like to use for the special dressing I was going to make. (You are probably thinking that I fell or something disastrous happened, but it did not. I just thought the image of me climbing onto the kitchen counter at my age would be good for a laugh . . . .) I couldn't find the cruet so I'll have to think of something else to use for the dressing, but look at the pretty little vase I found instead.

I bought this years ago and forgot I had it. It was shoved into a cabinet.

I stopped to go outside and pick a flower to put in the vase. I know, I should post a photo on Facebook just because it's so pretty. Then, since the camera was out, I thought I'd take a picture of the vase on a quilt. Then I thought I should take another picture of another quilt with the vase. Then I decided to take a picture of another quilt with another vase, and so on and so on and so on. By the time I was finished it was 3:00 and I hadn't really accomplished much else at all other than fooling around with quilts, the vase and the camera. I sort of just puttered around but it felt good instead of rushing around. Pretty productive day, huh? I like to have a day like this every now and then.

People ask me this question all the time - what do I do with small quilts? Easy. You can put them on a table. Here are some of my Quilts sur le Table -

Patterns for some of my table quilts can be found on my website

Dinner tonight will be Pasta Primavera accompanied by a salad with oranges and candied almonds with an orange vinagrette dressing. It's similar to this but I also add 1 -2 Tbs of frozen orange juice concentrate (from a can).

The missing cruet looks something like this.

If you happen to see it, let me know. Or, better yet, maybe this is the excuse I need to go visit a Home Goods store and shop for a new one . . . .

Loved your post today. This is how I also use my Little Quilts and I have a Cruet just like the one pictured. Sits on my table with vinegar in it. DH is a Kraut Head and puts vinegar on his vegies.

Such a cute post today Kathy, I never grow tired of seeing your quilts. And if your pretty vase goes missing it may just be sitting on my table! Love it!!

Your dad started like mine. I started cleaning the kitchen and then just kept moving from room to room. I did get to pick up my knitting late in the evening. Your quilts on the tables are beautiful, what a great show and tell. The vase worked perfect with the small quilts.

What a good idea for a post! It sure shows that inspiration is everywhere. I thought I was the only one who climbed on counters to get stuff. . . but we do have to be careful climbers.

I just love this post! I didn't have to work to understand how to do something, nor did I feel someone had created something I could never, ever do. I love the simplicity of your small quilts and love the idea of using them on the table. I have a small quilt on my table right now, too, crowned with a canning jar filled with zinnias from my garden. Very homey (but surely not fancy or hard.) My favorite kind of decor ... thanks for sharing yours.

You shame me, Kathy. We have moved into a different house after 33 years in my other one (it was too big). I still have boxes to unpack and sometimes just cannot face them! So you have also inspired me to get busy. I feel I cannot enjoy getting back to my sewing until it is all in order. Always enjoy your posts. Sandi in San Angelo

I'm so glad you wrote about how you use your little quilts. It's one of the questions I'm often asked by quilters who can't seem to see any reason why they'd want/need to make a small quilt. In other words, quilts are supposed to be large enough to be put on a bed. I'll be sure to direct them to this post so they can see why little quilts are just as valid in the quilting world as large ones.

As for you lost cruet, if you have a Dollar Tree in your area you might want to check them out. I was there the other day and a lady bought several tall square glass bottles with "oil" written on one side. She was going to use them to make flavored oil and give as Christmas gifts. For only $1 it could fill in until you find the lost vessel. Good luck in your search. Just think what other goodies you might find that have been forgotten!

I like you love little quilts. I used your Sweet Pea pattern to make one for a quilt exchange and it was well received. Thanks for sharing your wonderful talent with us.

It's good to let the day get away every now and again! Good for you! I loved all the quilts! The ladies want me to continue the Quiltalong and so we will! Can't wait, if you have any advice or would like to see a certain pattern made up, let me know.

This was a great blog post! Maybe you should become a writer as well? And your photos are nice. And the vase is pretty...

There's a kitchen goods store and website called "Sur la table" and for a minute I thought maybe you were "going there!" Most of my little quilts are still packed away from the move, but when they get unpacked I'll have to try putting some of them "sur la table" too! Toujours gai! as the original mehitabel would say!
