Parent (and Puppy) Weekend

We took another little road trip up to Wisconsin yesterday. It was Parent Weekend at the college my daughter attends. She left in early September and so it's been 6 weeks since we've seen her. It's the first time she's been away from home for that long and we missed her. I'm so glad she did not choose to go to school all the way across the country. Those of you with doted-upon daughters can appreciate this, I know. We were given strict instructions to bring the little black poodle puppy along. (She's 3, but we still call her a puppy because she's so darn cute and wears the puppy cut hairstyle, not the poufy poodle "do.")

I think this barn needs a quilt block painted on it, don't you?

A car ride! So much excitement! Where the heck are we going??

The Princess and her Puppy - An emotional reunion.

Puppy got a special tour . . .

. . .  and a taste of dorm life. She also got to meet and make some new friends.

In honor of the special visit, my daughter wore her new "Poodle" sweater she just bought  -  isn't it sweet?? I had to laugh. Where in the world did she find it?? At the mall, on sale, she said. Even better.

When our son was in college he never really wanted us to come up for Parent weekend ("Nah, that's okay, I might miss some fun with my friends. I'll see you when I come home for break.") so it was nice to be invited. However, after a few minutes, something told me she had a few ulterior motives for inviting us. In addition to being the private puppy escorts (Guess who got the first hug? It wasn't me.), she needed to go shopping for a winter coat, toiletries and food. Our work was cut out for us.

Nevertheless, we all had fun and we're happy she seems to be doing well. Before we left, I checked on the quilt I made for her. It also seems to be doing well. Puppy was exhausted from so much excitement and the long car ride and felt like sleeping in a bit. This morning I had to literally carry her to her food dish, LOL. It's that princess gene . . .

Yep, that barn needs a quilt.....

And one parent week-end for puppy and princess should do for the rest of the college career....

But a fall driving trip in Wisconsin would be wonderful....

I too have puppies that are years old. In fact my daughter could NOT believe they were 4 as they are forever being called puppies....

My daughter still refers to our 9 year old dog as the puppy.
Looks like everyone had a good time together.

I've been trying not to get homesick for autumn in the midwest. I failed. That barn (and undoubtedly many others) does need a quilt. And I need some fall colors in the form of real maples.
Glad you had lots of fun!

Oh, my the memories! My daughter has been out of college for 2 years now but remember the parent weekends and the inevitable shopping for "stuff" afterwards! LOL Luckily she only went to college an hour away from home so I could see her more frequently if needed. Is your daughter settling in ok? Sometimes it sure is a rough adjustment for girls to be away from home for the first time.

So glad you enjoyed Parent Weekend. I remember going to my daughter's about 13 years ago; lots of shopping was done! Right now she lives about 5 hours away in the Baltimore area but in December she moves her family to Idaho...what will I do living here in NY...so far away :(.
Okay, that barn really needs a quilt!

Nice pictures of your daughter and "the puppy." Love the poodle sweater. The puppy will probably always look like one because of her size and haircut. I bet she loved seeing your daughter after six weeks of separation, as you and your husband no doubt did as well! That barn really could benefit from a quilt design!

Hi Kathleen, it is lovely to see your daughter at college. Our eldest son is 16 and starting to plan where to go to University so I have all this to come. Am going to start on his Uni quilt next year! I do hope he wants us to visit although I can imagine that he will need food etc! Love the Puppy! Our Airedale is three but still the biggest puppy out there! Susie x
