The Golden Quilter Awards

The word is out and the nominations are in. The rumors are true. I must be totally clueless, because I have to admit I'd never heard of this before so I was taken unawares when Gerda told me I was nominated  for a Golden Quilter award in the Best Author category. Wow, you can imagine my surprise. (It was 3 a.m. and the phone rang. "Whaaat??  You're kidding me . . . " For once I was speechless.)

Seriously, friends, thanks to whoever cast those votes to nominate me. (Bonnie, are you absolutely sure you didn't vote twice??) If you are itching for some great giveaways, check out The Golden Quilter awards on SewCalGal's blog for those who cast votes.

Anyone can vote for their favorite nominee in any or all of the Quilting categories. Post a comment on SewCalGal's blog and you'll have a chance to win some fabulous prizes. Voting ends on March 31. If I win, there'll be a few nice giveaways here too. I promise.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go get started on my acceptance speech. All the nominees have to be prepared cuz you never know . . .  "You like me, you really LIKE me . . ." Oh wait, that's been done before . . . Maybe I'd better go talk to Susan Lucci and see how she did it . . . Oh, and I have to find a dress . . . Black, I think, it's slimming . . . and perfect  for my Long Shot status. Does my husband need to rent a tux or will anyone even be looking at him on the Red Carpet??? What WILL I do with my HAIR??

What oh what should I wear?? Here's the deal - pick the gown you think is best suited to me to wear to the [imaginary] Awards Ceremony (be kind) and I will throw your comments into a pool to win a few fat quarters of the new Alice's Wash Day Blues fabric designed by Carrie Quinn for Blue Hill.

Quilters, here are your [imaginary] choices. (Work with me . . .)

# 1 - Simple and elegant, not too flashy. And I know I can fill out the top much better than she does.

#2 - I love blue, but is this one a little crazy or what??
Too Smurfy?? I don't know, I kinda like it. The ruffle on the bottom, not so much . . .

#3  - Also very simple but I might  have to lose a few. This one only comes in Junior Miss. But then my daughter can wear it to Prom afterwards.

# 4 - Nice. I love  Ralph Lauren, but would I be able to wear my Granny underwear with this??

#5 - This one would make my butt look waaay too big . . .

#6 - Totally classic and dramatic. Perfect if I happen to lose.

#7 - My husband wouldn't know what hit him and would probably have a heart attack if I wore this . . . . Do I take that chance? Or is it too dangerous?

So, choose your dress, post a comment and you'll have a chance to win some really cool fabric. Dress comments will close at 10 p.m. CST Tuesday, March 22.

Also, don't forget, go to http://sewcalgal.blogspot.com/p/golden-quilter-awards.html before March 31 to cast your vote for me or your other favorites. Take your time and vote wisely. Voice your Choice. Tell your friends. I need all the help I can get.

I'd go for the red... striking, eye-catching and holding, in your face RED! Don't forget the red gloves...

...and warn your DH ahead of time... might let him see it before you put it on.. give him time to get used to the idea of all that skin!

I so love pink, but #4 looks so slenderizing. Of course if we were all a size 2, that might help. I already voted for you :-) I hope you win!

My vote is for number 7. I am sure that your husbands heart can take it. Go for it. You will look so lovely accepting your award. I am sure that you will win...if you don't, it's ok. I can see you writing your next quilt book wearing this dress. OH, the inspiration it will give you!!!

I love pink (I think you do too), so I choose #3. The Ralph Lauren is also lovely. I found out about the awards yesterday, and of course, I voted for you. Good luck, the others don't stand a chance.

Definitely #1 - understated elegance! Less is always more LOL!

You should all know that my husband is shaking his head at my lame attempt at humor here - he has no idea how much fun quilters can be when they let their imaginations take over, LOL.

Bonnie said...

Oh dahling, you must wear number 2 -- all your lovely scraps would go so well over it. Rip off the ruffle and add prairie points. It is definitely country blue in the nicest way. Do I get a second vote? I love red -- and I'm sure if I wore it the folds of my chubby little back would surge through the ties quite nicely. Aieyeee! Hey tell hubs we are all behind you. Hum, can we vote more than once??? I think we might need to mention it again on the chat group. B.

Lyn said...

Definitely #1. And with a beautiful shawl...timeless and elegant.

Karen said...

I love the color blue too, but I think the neckline might hit your waistline.LOL
Number One is elegant and sophisticated for such an event as this. Besides, if the press wants to take pictures of you holding your book the dress would look oh so good with it.

Lynn said...

congratulation's dress #2 is beautiful, ok maybe not the lower ruffles .

rebecca said...

For that wow moment, I'd wear #7. Good luck in the voting!!

I love dress #1 ~ so simple, elegant, and in my case, black hides a multitude of sins LOL! Congrats on your nomination!

Ariane said...

Well, my favorite is #5. But if you want to have the wow factore then pick #7. Good luck with the voting.

Beth said...

While all of the dresses are just beautiful... I think #6, classic, elegant, quietly wow.
Congrats on the nomination!

First of all! Wonderful news - sure hope you win! For the dress - go for the red one - the last one! And be sure to get a photo of yourself "draped" across a little chair! Good luck!!

#3...I like the idea of repurposing. But really, just thanks for the laughs! Good luck and don't forget to mention your dogs in your acceptance speech.

LavenderBlue said...

I vote for #4 which would look so nice with your coloring. I'm going now to vote for you in the contest...Best of Luck, you certainly deserve a win! Thank you for all you do for the quilting community.

Carol said...

#1 because it is classic and elegant. My favorite is #6, so Grace Kelly or Deborah Kerr. But then again my favorite color is red and everyone should wear an beautiful red dress at least once in their lifetime. Still waiting for my opportunity to wear a red formal. Best of luck to you!

Frances Leate said...

Congratulations on the nomination and I think you should wear #2 on the imaginary red carpet.

Darlene B said...

Congratulations, Kathleen! I would go with #1 - I think it's perfect for you! Loved all your funny comments today... :)

Jean said...

#2 You like blues and you would look great in that dress

Heleen said...

Oke, 1 is pretty safe....but I think you should act like a winner and wear number 7!!Don't wear that in case you lose dress! And number 4 is also oke but more for skinny poeple and that not quilters like! ;-)

Mary said...

My favorite is the Smurf dress minus the waist peplum. That does nothing for either the waist or butt and falls into the category of what was the designer thinking? I do like the neck ruffle though. It brings the viewers' focus up to the face where it should be!

Anonymous said...

I think #1 is the winner- AND I hope and believe YOU will be the winner also! Go for elegant - you could make a shawl of hexagons from your scraps. Everything goes with black after all! Prepare that speech!

So here is how my mind works. #7...it has the most fabric in the dress, therefore, you will have more to cut up and put in lots of special quilts after you wear it to the awards!!!! Red is perfect splash of color. Kristy in Ohio

Jeanne said...

I think your choice should be #3! Congratulations on your nomination.

Grandma Rita said...

Absolutely #7. This is no time to be shy. Go for it! Hubby will love it!

marian said...

OMGosh it's a tough choice but my three faves are,
#1...for it's understated, no-nonsense elegance
#4...for it's casual & unabashed sexiness
#7...for it's 'look at me i'm RED HOT' appeal

i LOVE all three but i think #1 is the winning gown for you, Kathy..it's simply beautiful!

GOOD LUCK!!x

It has to be #7 the red dress. It's fantastic and how dramtic you would look in it Scarlet O'Hara come to life. You only live once! Susie

Anne said...

I vote for number 7! Can't go wrong with a bustier top! Don't forget those dramatic gloves, and get Harry Winston's to loan you some bling.

Jantine said...

It must be amazing to be nominated, but you deserve it! Dress number 1 is the one I would choose, though I am not sure if black would suit you, you have to decide yourself. I love the pattern of this dress best...

Barbara said...

I vote for #1. There is nothing like basic black with a bit of shine to look really elegant and timeless.

Louise said...

Love love #2 in the blue! What I love best about it is the ruffled neckline which I think will draw the eye away from anywhere you would not like to be focused. Does that make sense? I do agree with you about the hemline ruffle though and I think that could easily be rectified. Congratulations on the nomination and love the new book. I just gifted someone yesterday with the sweet little pillow pincushion. I did embellish it with some vintage tatting from my secret stash, but the recipient is well deserving of it.

Susan said...

I think #1 would look just beautiful on you. Just from looking at your blog picture, I think black is your color, and the simple elegance of the dress suits your classic, refined appearance. No matter which dress you pick, I would also suggest putting your hair up, which will give an elegant look to match.
Congratulations on the nomination!

It's definitely dress #1 (trust me on this). Congratulations on your nomination, I'm sure it's well deserved. I suggest an updo and a little extra "evening out" makeup should do the trick. Seriously, hope you win!
